Date Change
March, 27th 1998 I'm looking for a new name for my site. What do you think about "Thangorodrim"? The name comes from the three mighty peaks Morgoth raised above the gates of Angband.
I know that the domain-name www.thangorodrim.com is already in use, but I don't plan to have my own domain-name (if nobody want's to sponsor it - hint, hint ;-), so this is not a problem. If you have a better name, just mail it to me.
I've received some new ideas about "wands and mages" and "a more realistic town" and added them to my ideas page.
MAngband 0.5.2 is available and now includes a Windows client.
March, 25th 1998 I've change the site-layout and moved some files around. All files are now in the same folder, to make it easier for me to update booth sites on TimesSquare/Fortress/9097/ and www.inf.tu-dresden.de. Geocities doesn't allow subdirectories, so I removed them. The old pages are still around, but will disappear in the next weeks.
March, 23rd 1998 I've created a mirror site for my Angband page. The 6 megabytes of webspace at Geocities will allow me to provide more compiled versions of the variants. Take a look at TimesSquare/Fortress/9097/. It should be completed in the next days. My "old" page at the University of Dresden will remain the main site, because I can change and upload files much faster.
The design of my pages will change slightly in the next days, I'm currently testing some new ideas.
March, 21st 1998 I'm back from a visit to the CeBIT in Hannover and I really need some sleep now. :-) I updated the variant pages with the new versions of MAngband and JAngband-A64 anyway.
March, 18th 1998 Ivan Tkatchev's KAmband 0.7 source is available and I have created a new DOS version. A review of the new features will follow in the next days.
I've added a link to the Roguelike News to my news page. Darren Hebden really deserves the thanks from all Angband players for his good work. It's really hard to keep up with all the news from Angband and the other roguelike games (especially with all the new variants and versions popping up every week), and his page always has the latest news.
March, 13th 1998 I've finished work on my DOS graphics, sound, music, and windows patch (the name is pretty long, isn't it?). It's really cool to run Angband with the DOOM midis in the background. I've lost a character because I started to melee with my novice mage. ;-)
Take a look at my Patches Page for the list of changes.
I have created a new version of KAmband 0.6 for DOS with the new sound support (but without any sound files) and also added some new (very basic) graphical tiles for the terrains.
Thanks to Paul Murray for allowing me to include his article about Compiling Angband with Visual C++. I've made some minor modifications to make it compatible with Angband 2.8.3 and enhanced the DOS section of the page a bit.
March, 10th 1998 Version 0.6 of KAmband is available as source code and I've already compiled a DOS version. Take a look at the bottom of my KAmband Page to see some of the new features.
Btw, if you want to use an ASCII-version of KAmband (or vanilla Angband) for DOS just run Angband without the "-g" option (run Angband.exe instead of Angband.bat). To get the old IBM-pseudo-ASCII use the "-mibm" option, but you will lose the extra windows. All this is stated on my Troubleshooting Page, not that I think you have trouble if you don't want to use graphics. ;-)
March, 9th 1998 Added info about KAmband gods.
DOS sections for Compiling and Installing Angband are available. They are not finished yet, but I hope they are usable.
March, 8th 1998 A first review of KAngband is available. Read it, and than grab this cool variant.
I've added three new sections Compile, Install, and Ideas. They are not finished yet, but I need a place where I can ask for your support.
March, 7th 1998 I added extra info about ZAngband. Other variants will follow in the next days. I'm currently preparing a review of KAngband.
Just finished coding sound support for DOS-Angband and added a midi-player. What do you think - is this good idea or just a waste of time? I'm searching for some better sound-files (the wave-files from the Windows version sound awful) and some fitting midi-songs for inclusion in my next compiled version. If you have any non-copyrighted material fitting for Angband, just drop me a line.
The new code will be available anyway, after some more beta-testing.
Deleted many old entries from the news page.
March, 6th 1998 Updated KAmband 0.5 for DOS with graphics and windows. Fixed a nasty bug, the terrain was invisible while playing under DOS/Win3.1 (quick fix: delete the "lib/user/features.prf" and "lib/user/colors-x.prf" files). KAmband includes some files in user.prf it shouldn't include. Ok, I learned my lesson, never trust files created by someone else! Thanks to Vemund for reporting it to me.
It worked in Win95, because the extra tilde from the long-filenames prevented the files from loading. DOS and Win3.1 just truncates the filename.
I've also fixed a bug that allowed you to attack your pets, added the fast autoroller, and removed the spoiler files (look at my spoilers page if you need them).
I've splitted up my variants page. Every variant gets it's own page. I'll enhance them soon. If anyone wants to add some info or a review, mail them to me.
March, 3rd 1998 I have a question to all visitors of my site: What do YOU want to see on my pages? More reviews of the Angband variants? Hints, Tips and Tricks? Documentation and guides to Angband? A "Dummies guide to install Angband" ? Mail your opinions to me!
Cleaned up the pages a bit and added some info about KAmband. If my Variants Page continues to grow I'll have to split it up into several pages.
Added the Angband Companion Page to my links.
March, 2nd 1998 I've compiled KAmband 0.5 for DOS with graphics and windows.
I've removed the old Angband 2.8.2 for DOS, because the new 2.8.3 version includes all the nice features and I need the space.
